In the field of frequency spectrum detection, energy detection and double-threshold detection are two widely used techniques. These techniques play a crucial role in the detection of signals and noise in the frequency domain.

Energy detection is a method that involves comparing the energy of the received signal to a pre-determined threshold value. If the energy of the signal is above the threshold value, it is considered to be a signal of interest. On the other hand, if the energy of the signal is below the threshold value, it is considered to be noise.

Double-threshold detection, as the name suggests, involves setting two threshold values instead of one. The first threshold value is set lower than the second threshold value. If the energy of the received signal is below the first threshold value, it is considered to be noise. If the energy of the received signal is between the first and second threshold values, it is considered to be a weak signal. Lastly, if the energy of the received signal is above the second threshold value, it is considered to be a strong signal.

In order to evaluate the performance of these detection techniques, Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves are often used. ROC curves can be simulated using various software programs such as MATLAB. By simulating ROC curves, we can better understand the trade-offs between detection probability and false alarm probability for different values of the threshold parameters.
