Vector quantization is a process of converting continuous or analog signals into digital signals. The LBG algorithm is a widely used method for vector quantization. The algorithm is based on iterative clustering of the input data into a set of representative vectors called codewords. The LBG algorithm starts with a single codeword and iteratively splits it into two, which results in an increase in the number of codewords. This splitting continues until the desired number of codewords is achieved. The LBG method of center splitting has been shown to be effective in various applications such as image and speech compression, pattern recognition, and data mining.
