This paper introduces a novel approach to solve the network reconfiguration problem in the presence of distributed generation (DG) in distribution systems. The main objective is to minimize real power loss and enhance the voltage profile. In order to achieve this objective, a meta-heuristic algorithm called Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) is utilized to reconfigure the network and identify the optimal locations to install DG units. The sensitivity analysis is also employed to determine the best locations for DG unit installation.
To assess the performance of the proposed method, different scenarios of DG placement and network reconfiguration are considered. The constraints of voltage and branch current carrying capacity are considered in the evaluation of the objective function. The proposed method is tested on 33-bus and 69-bus radial distribution systems at three different load levels.
The results obtained from the experiments are quite promising and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. By incorporating the sensitivity analysis, the method can identify the optimal locations for the installation of DG units, which can reduce power loss and improve the voltage profile.
