The AODV routing protocol is a popular on-demand algorithm for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) due to its low overhead and scalability. It is designed to find a route between a source node and a destination node by creating a route only when needed, instead of maintaining a complete routing table. When a node needs to send data to another node, it broadcasts a route request packet to its neighbors. The neighbors, in turn, forward the packet to their neighbors until the destination is found or the maximum hop count is reached. Once the destination is found, the route is established and used by the source node to transmit data. The AODV protocol is also capable of handling network topology changes, such as node failures or mobility, by discovering new routes and updating existing ones. Its features make it an efficient and reliable choice for routing in MANETs.
